I view photography as a spiritual experience - the opportunity to capture a unique moment in life through the manipulation of light and form. In Native American folklore, the Dreamcatcher is a web kept over a sleeper's resting place. The web catches bad dreams. Only good dreams slip through the web to the sleeper's dreamscape to give her comfort and guidance in life. I want to use my lens to capture the best of a moment and reveal the landscape or person as the dream it was meant to be - the dream laying just beneath the surface waiting for the right moment, the right light and vision to be revealed and captured.
When you see a landscape created by me, you should feel the wind in your hair, the texture of the wood, the light of the sun on your face. A portrait reveals the true essence of a person and their personality. By seeing a portrait that I have worked to create with the subject, you have met the person because the true essence of who they are, or dream to be is captured.
An essential moment may be defined by being at the right place and time when the sun, wind, and air create a moment to capture as the elements play across the landscape. An essential moment may be one defined by an event in your life that you want to cherish forever - a relationship, a marriage, a birth or other transformational events. An essential moment may simply be a time to capture an image of yourself to present to the world and share your dreams with others - the aspiring model, the rising corporate executive, the togetherness of a family, or a romantic image to share with a loved one.
Capturing moments like these takes preparation. It could be sitting in the dark on a mountaintop for several days, waiting for the sun to paint the landscape in a certain way. Or, it might involve pre-consultations with my client to discover how to weave her personality into the photo session and resulting images. Sometimes it's in the story of why this event or this moment will be a memory worth preserving for the many years to come. I am your guide to capturre the essence of that moment.
